Effects of Drip Irrigation Design on a Lemon and a Young Persimmon Orchard in Semi-Arid Conditions

Drip irrigation is presently widely recognized as the most efficient system that can be used in woody perennial crops. However, uncertainties exist on more appropriate agronomic design to employ. Here, we summarized research carried out for three seasons two young crops (persimmon and lemon) southeastern Spain. Several designs were compared by maintaining a similar amount of water application but varying number emitters pipelines each row orchard. In lemon trial, was additionally combined with different regimes, comparing full (FI) sustained deficit (SDI). persimmon trees, which still at juvenility stage, per tree or drip lines row, neither affects performance nor fruit yield seasons. over entire experimental period, relative trunk growth increased when employed. trees had reached commercial production, FI, SDI, average weight, while reduced fruits without affecting total observed third year experimentation. The only an effect first year, increasing weight drippers increased. addition, composition not consistently affected design. It concluded that, given dose, frequency, soil conditions (loam-clay texture), both very mature wetted area some slight positive effects performance.
